Users

The project addresses several user groups and thematic communities.

Its first beneficiaries will be GARR founding members (CNR, ENEA, INFN, public and private universities), research organizations, cultural institutions (e.g. libraries, archives, museums), which are already connected to the National Research and Education Network but will obtain significant capacity upgrades and access to advanced services in line with their requirements.

In addition, the project foresees the interconnection of about 400 schools, selected among the secondary education institutes located in the 4 regions’ county seats. Additional beneficiaries include other potential users not yet connected to the National Research and Education network, such as public administrations and civil service offices, research spin-offs and innovative enterprises operating on the territory.

A special stress will be on “virtual research communities”, i.e. scientific communities defined by common research topics and not by the affiliation to a single organization, and operating on a national and even European or Global scale. For their intrinsic characteristics, VRC often need specific services and heavily rely on the dependability of the ICT infrastructure at their disposal.
